Privacy
Lore is a place to keep track of the fanfiction you read. This page explains what Lore stores about you, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.
The short version: Lore keeps only what it needs to run your library. It doesn’t track you, it doesn’t show ads, and it never sells your data.
Lore is an independent project by Sara L. Questions go to hello@readlore.co.
What Lore stores
Your account
- Your email address, used to send sign-in links. Lore has no passwords.
- Your username.
- A display name and bio, if you add them.
- Your settings, such as whether new lists start as public and whether Mature and Explicit summaries are shown.
Your library
- The fics you save, and when you saved them.
- For each fic: your reading status, rating, the chapter you’re on, your private note, and your public note.
- Your lists, and which of them are public.
- Where a save came from, when Lore can tell (for example, the iOS Shortcut or a link shared from another app).
Fic details
When you save a fic, Lore fetches its public page from AO3 and stores the details, like title, author, tags, word count and summary. These details are shared by everyone who saves that fic and aren’t tied to you. Lore never sends anything about you to AO3.
Who can see what
Only you: your email, your ratings, your reading statuses, your private notes, and your private lists.
Anyone with the link: your username, display name and bio, and your public lists. Also visible are the fics on those lists and your public notes on them. You choose which lists are public in Your lists, and you can make one private again at any time.
Lore has no feeds, followers or search yet. Someone can only find your public pages if you share a link or they already know your username.
Cookies and browser storage
Lore uses a small number of cookies, all needed for the site to work:
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| sb-…-auth-token | Keeps you signed in | Until you log out or the session expires |
| lore_next | Remembers the page you were heading to (such as a fic you shared to Lore) while you sign in | One hour, deleted once you’re signed in |
Lore also saves the last email you signed in with in your browser’s storage, so the login page can fill it in. It stays on your device and isn’t sent to Lore.
Lore doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and there are no third-party cookies. If that ever changes, this page will change first.
Services Lore uses
Lore relies on a few companies to run. They process your data only to provide their service to Lore:
- Supabase: database and sign-in. Your account and library live here, in the United States.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Resend: sends sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare: manages the readlore.co domain.
Like most web services, these keep short-lived technical logs, which can include your IP address and browser type. Lore uses them only to keep the service running and secure.
What Lore doesn’t do
- Sell or rent your data.
- Show ads, or share your data with advertisers.
- Send marketing email. The only emails are the sign-in links you ask for. If Lore ever sends announcements or newsletters, you’ll have to opt in first.
- Read your private notes or lists, except when you ask for help with a problem, or to keep Lore secure.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, and choose Delete account. This immediately deletes your profile, library, ratings, notes and lists, and frees up your username. Your public pages stop working at once.
Fic details stay, since other people’s libraries use them and they contain nothing about you. Deletion is permanent and can’t be undone.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask to correct it, or delete it, wherever you live. Most of this you can do yourself in Lore: you can edit your profile and notes anytime and delete your account in Settings. For a copy of everything, email hello@readlore.co.
If you’re in the EU or UK, Lore processes your data to provide the service you signed up for, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Age
Lore is for people 16 and older. If you believe someone younger has an account, email hello@readlore.co and it’ll be removed.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top will change. For bigger changes, Lore will tell you in the app first.
